The NuMex Suave Orange is a mild habanero-type pepper developed at New Mexico State University producing plump lantern-shaped orange pods with the distinctive fruity citrus aroma and apricot-like flavor of habanero peppers at just 500-1,000 SHU with virtually none of the habanero's ferocious heat. Developed to allow consumers to enjoy the prized tropical flavor of Capsicum chinense peppers without extreme heat it has become popular among food manufacturers and home cooks seeking habanero flavor in mild products.
