Description
Pepper X was certified by Guinness World Records in 2023 as the world's hottest pepper with an average of 2.693 million SHU developed by Ed Currie of PuckerButt Pepper Company in South Carolina over ten years of selective breeding using his hottest existing varieties. The small gnarled yellow-green pods are pock-marked and misshapen with a scorpion-like tail and paradoxically offer a sweet floral flavor before unleashing an almost weaponized wave of sustained full-body heat that Currie himself described as causing six hours of pain. It surpassed his own Carolina Reaper as the world record holder and is cultivated exclusively for use in his hot sauce products.
